NORTH PLATTE, Neb. KNOP North Platte Community College's Sigma Kappa Delta is collecting paperback books through February 20th for inmates at the Lincoln County Detention Center.
The book drive is the organization's first community service project since its establishment in the fall.
"Hopefully we are going to be able to donate a variety types of books where any of the inmates can pick up something that sparks their interest and they say, "hey this is something that I am interested in," said North Platte Community College English Instructor Kristi Leibhart. "Even though they are not able to go off to a movie or turn on Netflex right now or check out their phone, this book will be something that will hold their interest, get their spirits up and make their day a little bit better so that they can carry on and get some ideas for the future where they can better themselves a little bit."
Collection sites are located throughout various locations within the south campus.
The campaign wraps up during the Knights basketball games on the 20th.
Admission will be free to anyone who donates a book.
