NORTH PLATTE, Neb. (KNOP) - You can start learning more about the North Platte Schools Security Initiative to make local schools safer. The district has scheduled several open forums to give North Platte registered voters more information on the levy override for this initiative.
The North Platte Public School Board has identified three schools with safety and security needs -- including North Platte High School and Buffalo Elementary -- and three schools with air quality improvement needs, including Eisenhower, Jefferson and McDonald Elementary.
The levy needs voter approval in order to move forward and would not increase property taxes.
Thanks to Nebraska Secretary of State Bob Evnen, this will be the first all-mail election for North Platte. Registered voters will have until 5 p.M. March 10 to return ballots.
The open forums on the proposal are scheduled for the following times:
» 2-3 p.m. Jan. 14, Lincoln County Fairgrounds, 5015 W. Rodeo Road.
» 6:30-7:30 p.m. Jan. 21, NPHS, 1220 W. Second St.
