National Weather Service advisory for winter driving

NORTH PLATTE, Neb. Many people woke up to as much as 6 inches of snow in various areas of Western Nebraska.

While the snow is something people can expect during the winter months, sometimes it's the little things we forget to do that end up costing us the most.

The National Weather Service's Ed Townsend says it's all about preparation.

"Be aware of is how to get weather information and have different sources. Whether it's radio television, internet or your cell phone," says Townsend.

"Also, to know what your winter preparedness kit is in your car. Is it stocked with non perishable food? Do you have flashlights? Do you have a warm blanket if you need to pull off the side of the road?"
