It's an exciting and historical time for North Platte St. Patrick's and Maxwell Public Schools as they have officially voted to join forces to create the first high school baseball team in Western Nebraska.

Last Monday the board for Maxwell voted in favor of the baseball team.

Tuesday night the board for North Platte Catholic Schools did the same making it official.

Athletic Director Mark Skillstad said he thinks it's a special time for St. Pat's and Maxwell Athletics.

"It has been reported that the Nebraska Schools Activity Association believes once somebody starts baseball out west, in the western part of the state, there'll be other schools that follow," said Skillstad.

Mark Skillstad has been in communication with other private schools who are in a co-op with a public school and said it's been a great way to build unity within the community.

It's still unclear to both teams how the finances will be divided.

The first season will start Spring of 2021.
