Police look for public's help in Benson homicide investigation

OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) - After a nightlong investigation of a Thursday homicide in Benson, traffic near the scene at 62nd and Maple remained restricted Friday morning and police asked for community help in developing leads in the case.

A police tweet around 6:45 Friday morning asked for anyone with information to contact OPD's homicide Unit at 402 444-5656 or to contact Omaha Crime Stoppers at 402 444-STOP.

Omaha Crime Stoppers offers an enhanced reward of $25,000 for a tip leading to the arrest of the suspect(s) involved in the homicide.

Omaha Police tell our sister station WOWT 6 News five shots rang out about 11:45 p.m. near 62nd and Maple. When officers arrived, they found the victim lying in the grass next to a building.

Medics declared the victim dead at the scene.

No information has been released about the gunman. Police were working to confirm the victim's identity.

Maple was closed throughout the night between 61st and 63rd Street.
