Parents sue businesses and man tied to family death

NORTH PLATTE, Neb. (KNOP)-- Two parents are suing the man accused of killing their children and grand children in Nebraska last July.

Kathrynn Pals and Gordon Engel are suing Tony Weekly Jr., plus three companies for the wrongful death of Jamison & Kathryne Pals, plus the couple's three children.

The suit was filed in U.S. Federal Court. It names Weekly, who is charged with motor vehicle homicide in Keith County. The lawsuit also says the Bohren Logistics trucking company should not have hired Weekly because of his bad driving record.

The accident happened in a construction zone on Interstate 80. The lawsuit says the two companies -- Interstate Highway Construction Inc. and D.P. Sawyer Inc. caused traffic to slow down or stop frequently.

Terry Waite of North Platte is representing Weekly in this case. He says it's been difficult for his client and he's having a terrible time, but Waite stresses the case has been hard on all those involved and that he doesn't want to take away from what the family is going through.
