MELBITA, Neb. (KNEP) Fire was called in to Minitare Volunteer Fire Department at 9:30am February 2, 2019. Minitare Fire and Gering Fire worked together to put out the structure fire at a home SW of Melbita off of Wright's Gap Rd. and County Road W.

Sparks from a wood burning stove caught wood piles and the porch on fire. Minatare Fire and Gering Fire snuffed it out in 15 to 20 minutes. The porch was burnt but the fire did not spread to the home. Minitare Volunteer Fire Chief Brian Lore said the damage is estimated at $3,000.

"I want to thank Gering Fire for the joint effort that stopped the fire from spreading to the home." said Lore, who is hitting 30 years on the Minitare Fire Department this month.
