Monday's Veterans Day Service at the 20th Century Veterans Memorial wrapped service men in women in kind words and special quilts.
Speaker Pete Volz says we honor our veterans who unselfishly placed their lives on the line for our freedoms.he says those men and women were just ordinary people until they heard the call of duty.
John Phillips, a combat engineer in Vietnam from 1971-1972 was touched.
"It was such a nice surprise. What a great country. We are so blessed. It's just impossible to imagine how God can be so good to us," said Phillips.
The ceremony was marked by the a presentation of quilts from a special set of volunteers. Chris Reinert, says Volunteers pieced and sewed the quilts to cover veterans from all conflicts and war.
"Each one had a different job or duty, and each one vowed to lay their life for you and me, no questions asked," said Reinert.
Quilts of valors and north platte heartland quilters cover service men and women touched by war with comforting and hearling quilts.
