Real-life cornhuskers compete in Gothenburg

GOTHENBURG, Neb. Gothenburg was the place to be for real cornhuskers on Saturday.

They hosted competitors from all over the state for the Nebraska State Hand Cornhusking Competition.

"There's a lot of families you'll see coming through here where great grandpa started doing it and then it trickles down through the line," says repeat competitor Erin Fairley.

"So a lot of families are what are in here. We've had a hay maze the last several years and the kids absolutely love it. There's a corn pile they can go play in. It's a wonderful family event. It's just fun to see the same people year after year."

Many of the people who competed will represent Nebraska at Nationals.

Next year Gothenburg will host the state and national competition.
