Severe thunderstorms cause tree damage in Cozad

COZAD, Neb. (KNOP) - Severe thunderstorms and straight line winds caused damage throughout Cozad Sunday night.

Wind speeds ranged from 50 to 80 miles per hour. The damaging storms left trees and power lines down throughout the town.

Many people in Cozad were left without power from 5 p.m. Sunday night to 8 a.m. Monday morning. The Dawson Public Power District had 260 calls during that time period.

Dawson County Emergency Management advises onlookers to stay out of town, and let the debris get cleaned up and removed.

People in Cozad can drop off tree limbs or other damaged objects at East Highway 30 across from Pump and Pantry. Residents can also leave it in a pile on the side of the street.
