NORTH PLATTE, Neb. KNOP-TV Saint Patrick's High School held a blood drive for the American Red Cross Thursday.

The drive is one of four the National Honor Society organizes throughout the year.

Their goal is to collect thirty-one units.

"A lot of people don't necessarily understand the necessity of giving blood unless they've gone through something where they needed a blood transplant or someone they know," said National Honor Society Philanthropist Brooklyn Childears. "I didn't realize how big of a deal it was until someone in my family had an accident where they could've died if they didn't have blood."

The next blood drive is scheduled for May.
