Student cited and expelled for having a gun on school property

NORTH PLATTE, Neb. KNOP A high school student at Maxwell Public School's was cited and expelled for having a gun on school property.

The shotgun was reported to coaches after someone saw it in the trunk of the vehicle after Tuesday's football practice.

School officials and authorities confronted the student about it this morning. The gun was still in the student's trunk.

The student told authorities he forgot to take the gun out of the trunk after going hunting this past weekend.

He was cited for possession of a weapon on school property, which is a Class IV felony.

The Lincoln County Sheriff's Office says there were no behavioral issues or threat to the school.
