It's part of Washington Elementary's biannual "Lunch with a Veteran" program.
The school hosted five veterans from the U.S. Navy, U.S Marine Corps, U.S. Air Force, and U.S. Army Thursday.
Organizers said the event is a great way for veterans to share their stories and see that they are normal people from the community.
"The veterans talked about that one of the biggest things they learned was respect, and I think that's really important for our kids because we kind of lost that in some aspects, and so for me as a teacher I feel like this is an important lesson for our kids to learn," said music teacher Janette Kammerer. "There's a reason we can go to a school that we want to, we get to pick what we want to be when we grow up and it's because of men and women who fought to keep our freedom here in the United States and that's huge."
A second program will be held at Eisenhower Elementary on Friday.
