NORTH PLATTE, Neb. (KNOP) - April is National Sexual Assault Awareness Month. The Lincoln County Sexual Assault Response Team or SART, say sexual violence impacts millions of men and women every year. The group tied teal ribbons on all law enforcement vehicles in North Platte Wednesday.

The teal ribbons show support for victims and survivors of sexual assault. Local officials hope the collaborative effort encourages people to seek any help they might need. Forensic Interview and SART Advocate Andrea Hongsermeier said, "There are people in this area that are here to support you and believe you and help you through what you're going through."

Lincoln County Detention Center's Chief Deputy Roland Kramer said, "I hope it shows the community that we're all in when someone makes a report, we'll investigate and we are not going to hide any reports."

The SART team meets to discuss system responses to sexual assault to make sure the needs of victims are met.
