OGALLALA, Neb. KNOP-TV Amadeus Leroux plead not guilty to manslaughter, second degree assault, and possession of a deadly weapon in Keith County Court Friday.
The 17-year-old also waived his right to a speedy trial. The teen is accused of stabbing and killing John Fratis in Ogallala in 2017.
Attorney Maren Lynn Chaloupka of Scottsbluff also filed a motion to continue representing her client, rather than the Commission of Public Advocacy, stating she's already invested nearly 300 hours on the case.
"I've gotten to know Amadeus real well and his family and there is some complex family dynamics that play into this case," said Chaloupka. "So it's easier to for me to get down here to meet him, work with him, and prepare a defense for him."
District Judge Michael Piccolo granted the motion. Chaloupka will be paid $100 an hour to represent Leroux.
The Nebraska Court of Appeals ruled in July '18 Leroux should be tried in adult court.
A status hearing is set for August 9th.
