A truck caught fire driving south on Highway 83, leaving the two people inside the vehicle scrambling to get their belongs and get to safety.

The North Platte Fire Department and Lincoln County Sheriffs Office responded to the scene around 8:20 p.m. on Wednesday.

Crews found the older-model GMC truck completely engulfed in flames.

The two people driving inside of the vehicle were unharmed.

"It appears the cause was probably just an older carburetor, an older truck must have had a little leak in the engine compartment started on fire," Jason Trimble, battalion chief, said. "The people that were in it were able to get out an get a few personal belongings out."

Trimble said that the truck is a total loss.
