USPS fights local hunger

NORTH PLATTE, Neb. United States Postal Service Letter Carriers banded together to fight hunger on Saturday.

It was the annual Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive.

It's considered the largest one-day food drive in America.

USPS asked the public to donate food and leave them near the mailbox for Letter Carriers to collect as they delivered the mail.

Letter Carrier Joseph Toelle says they had a great turnout from the community.

"Just the amount of help that comes from the community. It seems like everybody pitches in," Toelle said.

"With the time to give and even the flooding that happened previously it was still a really good turnout for people wanting to give."

All of the food collected will go to local organizations to fight hunger in the immediate area.
