Some may have noticed the levels at Lake Maloney are lower than normal.

According to Nebraska Public Power District they are keeping the reservoir at 3-8 inches lower on purpose.

NPPD's Bryan Hope said it's a precautionary measure to allow room for more water if necessary due to large amounts of rain or flooding.

It also allows some forgiveness for overflowing if the operating staff falls ill with the pandemic and nobody is available to monitor the levels.

"We just want to make sure we have the cushion in Lake Maloney to allow us to get through that situation without any issues of the lake level being exceeded," said Hope.

Hope said boaters need to use caution when entering the shallow areas of the lake.
