NORTH PLATTE, Neb. (KNOP) - We saw a later than expected transition from rain to snow across the coverage area, which will likely cut down on the snowfall potential through tonight into Sunday afternoon.
Light to moderate snow is expected to continue through Saturday, with snow breaking up as we head toward Saturday night. Scattered light snow showers are expected to continue into Sunday afternoon with additional light snow accumulations.
Breezy north winds are expected through the day today with north winds blowing at 15 to 25 MPH with gusts as high as 35 MPH possible. High winds will create areas of blowing and drifting snow with areas of reduced visibility through the day. Combining that with already snow covered roads, travel will be difficult and hazardous for most of Saturday - especially in the interstate.
Snow accumulations are still expected to be greatest across north central parts of the state, with a foot or more of snow possible through Sunday evening. As you go south, lesser snow amounts are expected with about 4" to 8" for North Platte and 3" to 6" for much of southwestern Nebraska.
