BROKEN BOW, Neb. (KNOP) - The Broken Bow Legion baseball juniors are hosting the Class B Area 6 post season tournament, drawing the three-seed, and hosted Gothenburg, the six-seed, in the first round of the tournament on Friday.

The match-up featured Bronson Long on the mound for the Gothenburg Melons, and Caden Holm on the mound for Broken Bow.
The Melons tagged Holm for a run in the top of the first inning, after Wes Geiken led the game off with a single. Geiken moved to second on a passed ball, advance to third on a Jake Kozeal ground-out to Holm, and scored on a ground-out to third. Holm ended the first inning with a strikeout of Tubby Baker. He would not allow another run to score in the game.
Broken Bow answered in the bottom of the first inning. Blake Denson walked to lead off the inning, and Cyrus Wells singles between first and second to send Denson to third. Holm walked the load the bases for first baseman Sawyer Bumgarner. Bumgarner drove a single up the middle to score Denson and Wells, and move Holm to third. The next batter, Carter Johnson grounded out to third to score Holm, for Broken Bow to take the 3-1 lead.
Long settled down after allowing three runs in the first. He worked himself into a bases loaded, no out, jam in the third, but induced an infield fly, forced a fielder's choice out at home, then got a strike out to end the inning, with no runs coming home.
Long pitched six innings, allowing just the three runs, on seven hits, and three strike outs. However, Long received the loss in the game, as Holm held the Melons to just three hits, and struck out 11 batters in seven innings for the win.
Broken Bow will play Cozad on Saturday, July 13 at 5 p.m., Gothenburg will play Holdrege Saturday at 12 p.m.
