Home grown: St. Pat's grad Brendan Lynes taking over as Irish AD

NORTH PLATTE, Neb. (KNOP) - Brendan Lynes graduated from North Platte St. Patrick's High School in 2010, and played under current Athletic Director Mark Skillstad on the Irish football team. Lynes returned to coach golf, basketball, and football for the high school three years ago, and has been the physical education teacher at McDaid Elementary for the last two years.

Now, Lynes is replacing Skillstad as the AD this summer, as Skillstad retires after 40 years with the school district. Skillstad was the first one to inform Lynes about the open AD position, and encouraged him to apply for it.

"Getting to see both sides, from working with him, and getting coached by him, he's just a great leader, just a great person to learn from, and he's just an awesome guy," Lynes said. "He leaves big shoes to fill, but I'm excited to try my best, and I know he'll still be there to help me out whenever."

Lynes will officially take over the role sometime this summer. He will no longer coach football, as he transitions into the new role, but will still be an assistant coach for the boys' basketball team, and the head coach for the boys' golf team.

"I'm just excited to get going," Lynes said, "I appreciate the administration having faith in me to to take over from Mr. Skillstad, and I'm just looking forward to this journey."
