The North Platte Community College men's and women's basketball teams were in Beatrice to face Southeast Community College Saturday.
The women's team improved to 4-19 on the year with a 77-62 win in their Region IX Division II game.
The team shot 50.8% from the field, and four Knights scored in double figures. Madisyn Francis had a career high 23, Nerea Castellano had 16, Nahatabaa Nacona had 11, and Emily Joseph had 10.
Dehje Belmore led the team with 10 rebounds, falling just two points short of a double-double.
“Today we showed a lot of toughness and togetherness. We battled all day,” Knights Head Coach Jeff Thurman said. “We have the potential and we will need to build off of today's win.”
For the men, they improved to 18-3, and 4-1 in the Nebraska Community College Athletic Conference with an 89-69 win.
The Knights shot 5 for 11 from beyond the arc in the game.
Four players scored in double digits; Tim Johnson had 18, Courtney Murrell had 16, Jakub Karwowski had 14, and Luke Christen had 11.
Karwowski also added 22 rebounds, which is just two short of the NPCC all-time record.
Down in Borger, Texas, the NPCC softball team split a double-header against Frank Phillips College.
In the first game, Hallei Morales went 3 for 4 with two runs scored, in the team's 9-5 win.
In the second game, Mikayla Gibson went 2 for 4 with two runs scored. The Knights lost the second game 8-7, on a walk-off.
“We showed a lot of heart, fight and potential and will be able to build off of these games. We fought through the cold and 20-30 mph winds both days.” Knights Head Coach Janelle Higgins said . ”We need to stay focused for 7 innings and execute on both sides of the field to help ourselves early in games.”
The Knights are 1-3 on the season.
