NPCC tops McCook, advances to Region IX tourney

The NPCC men's basketball team topped McCook Community College 85-82, to advance to the Region IX tournament.

Courtney Murrell led the team in scoring with 22 points. He also added five rebounds. Right behind him was Tim Johnson, who had 22 points, he also had seven rebounds and four assists. Johnson's rebounds led the team in a game they were without their leading rebounder, Jakub Karwowski.

The game came down to key buckets late, and a momentum swing came with 11.8 seconds left in a tie game, when the Indians called a timeout. The problem being the Indians did not have any more timeouts to use, so they were issued a technical foul. Tim Johnson hit one of the two free throws, and the Indians had possession. They missed their shot and Murrell pulled down the rebound and was fouled. He hit both his free throws to seal the game.

The Knights advance to play to play Central Wyoming in the Region IX tournament on Thursday in Sheridan, WY. That game will be at 6 p.m. central time.
