NORTH PLATTE, Neb. (KNOP) - The North Platte First National Senior team is hosting a tournament this weekend, Friday was the first day of games.
The first game was between Ogallala and Kearney at 3 p.m.
Kearney got on the board first, scoring two runs in the first inning. After the third Kearney had the lead 6-1.
Ogallala would pick things up late in the game; despite being no-hit going into the sixth inning, they managed to score four runs before getting their first hit, and only trailed 7-4 in the sixth. They scored three runs in the sixth to tie the game, with the tying run coming on a one-out ground out.
In the bottom of the seventh, Trey Rezac walked with one out, stole second, and advanced to third on a wild pitch. After the next batter walked, Alex Patrick came to the plate with one out, and Rezac as the winning run on third. Patrick laid down a bunt up the first base line. The throw home was on time, and Rezac was initially ruled out, but the catcher dropped the ball, and Ogallala won the game.
In the late game, North Platte took on Alliance, in North Platte's first home game of the season.
North Platte came out strong. The second batter of the game, Carter Johnson smacked a one-out triple, and was brought home by the next batter; Tyler Ferguson ripped a ground ball up the middle to drive Johnson home.
In the third, Alliance scored three runs; one on a sacrifice bunt, one on an rbi single, and one on a double steal.
North Platte responded with runs in the bottom of the third and fourth to tie the score at three after four.
