NORTH PLATTE, NEB. (KNOP)- With COVID-19 canceling or postponing events the North Platte Recreation Committee had been planning on, they are still hoping some events can take place this summer.

Executive Director of the North Platte Visitors Bureau, Lisa Burke, said they're hoping in June they will get the green light to have events with a limited capacity.

"I would expect we're going to look at 20 or 50 people in a group, starting June 1st, we hope we will know this week or the very first of next week," said Burke.

Samantha Geisler, a member of the bureau, emphasized that they are doing what they can to have as many events possible take place. A USAA Boxing event that was planned for later in the summer has not been officially canceled and if it is to take place, will have to do so in a smaller manner than originally planned.

"We're working with the USAA organization, we're working as a Nebraska organization group to try and get that event here," said Geisler.

With the heath guidelines being a fluid situation, Lisa Burke said they are learning on the fly and will continue to update people on events as soon as they have a plan in place.

"We're going to be learning and keeping in touch with what the regulations are going to be and what the directive health measures are."
