Hershey, Neb. (KNOP)--- Hershey is adjusting to a new coach this year; Greg Welch who led Seward to a state championship in 2001.
But this year is a new team with 34 total guys out for football and four of those being seniors.
Senior left tackle and defensive end Josh Eshleman said, "The whole culture is changing. He's brought a really positive vibe around here."
Hershey head football coach Greg Welch said, "I always say culture will defeat everything. So we're trying to create a culture and my culture, a lot of it is enthusiasm and we teach quick and kind of a fast moving practice. But I think turning to program around, you have to start with culture. "
Senior tight end and linebacker William Huebner said, "Everything's fast. It's, you huddle, break, spring to the line, you get done, sprint to the huddle. And that's the only way we're going to beat teams is just play faster and wear them down."
Losing such a big senior class really opens up opportunities for player and new schemes.
Eshleman said, "Eighteen seniors, down to four this year. We try to be leaders as best as we can be. A lot of us didn't see time last year just because of the high numbers of seniors before but I think we're ready to see the field."
"But we're quick, fast. That's, we got that. We're not huge, that's no lie, we're not trying to hide that," said Huebner.
Welch said, "You know we're going to run the ball definitely but we have a good throwing quarterback right now and Bryce Butterfield has shown a lot of ability to throw. So I think we're going to be a balanced team and you know hopefully we're going to be a good defensive team."
