MAXWELL, Neb. (KNOP)--- Maxwell getting it's last practices in before the season opener Friday as they hope to improve off if their 4-and-4 record last year after being bitten by the injury bug.
The Wildcats coming in with almost double the numbers from last season; young guys coming out and new transfers hoping to add some size, speed and experience to the team.
They return last year's lead tackler and a three year starter who plays both ways.
Maxwell's head coach Ryan Jones said, "Our numbers are way up. We have 30 on the team this year up from 18 last year. A lot of freshman and a lot of new comers. So we're happy with the group we have, that will help us with depth this year, not so many guys will have to go both ways. And the best thing with numbers is the guys are getting pushed to get out on the field. Competition breads success and a lot of our kids have had to have a lot of good practices to get that starting position."
Senior tight end Drew Hazen said, "Yeah we do have a lot more guys, we got a lot more speed this year, the experience is good too as well. We're kind of young but we got some experience as well."
Junior tight end Seth Simcox said,"We got some fast guys on offense and we got a pretty strong line."
Maxwell starts their season at Morrill.
