Pigskin Preview: Sutherland Sailors

SUTHERLAND, Neb. (KNOP)--- Finishing 1-7 last year, the Sailors are pleased to see an increase of guys out under new head coach Geier; 26 to be exact.
Good depth for 8-man football.

They have 13 juniors and seniors leading the team which has been a huge focus point this off season.

Senior tight end and middle linebacker Peyton Copeland said, "We're looking pretty good, we got a bunch of young kids stepping up and giving us some competition on the scouting side and just looking pretty good."

Senior left guard and defensive end Bennett Floyd said, "It is a little better than what it's been. We got more people out and that;s going to help us just getting people breaks and getting some good players on the field too."

Head coach Brendan Geier said, "We have a very difficult schedule, I mean, you look at the entire thing, South Loup and Paxton are out first two games. I think they went a combined 19-4 last year. So they got a lot of good kids coming back, they're well coached. And then our other non district game is Southwest who also qualified for the playoffs."

Sutherland opens their season at last year's state runners up South Loup. They also face Bayard and Kimball who dropped down from 11 man.
