SUTHERLAND, Neb. (KNOP)--- Sutherland football is coming back this season after graduating five starters from their playoff squad last year, looking for some young guys to fill the holes.
Head coach Brendan Geier said, "Well obviously in 8-man football when you lose that many, amount of kids that have played, it's tough but that's also kind of the exciting challenge is getting to see other kids grow into those roles and kind of take on those opportunities. "
Senior running back Connor Floyd said, "We got a lot of young guys coming in and they definitely need a little bit of practice but they're definitely putting in the work and you can tell they're working hard."
"We got a lot of new kids that came, like transfers that came here so they're kind of filling those spots. Just some other kids that played some last year but didn't start, have a lot of experience and are coming and to play big," said senior tight end and safety Noah Holm.
And after making the playoffs last season, players say it's one of their season's goals to make it again this time around.
Floyd said, "We got the feeling of getting knocked out but this year we're coming back with vengeance. Wanting to play harder than we've ever had to play before."
Coach Geier said, "We've been willing to work. And that's been the number one thing, whether it was in the weight room this summer or just in practice. They've been willing to show up, they're been coach-able and they want to get better each day."
