Pigskin preview: Sandhills/Thedford Knights

THEDFORD, Neb.-- Head coach Josh Deines will be entering his seventh season as the knights head coach.

Last year the knights finished 4-4 in the regular season and lost to Paxton in the first round of state.

Two players that missed the entire season last year due to injury will be back. Both of those players are on the defensive and offensive line.

In total, five seniors and 12 Letterman are returning.

Two-thirds of the team is underclassmen, many of whom boast a lot of playing experience.

Coach Deines says he's looking forward to the added depth and building upon the younger guys with experiences.

"I think our mission is to go out and get a few good wins during the regular season and get a little farther than the first round this year and be a good tough out this year in the playoffs, quarterfinals, semi finals, maybe even state," says senior Gage Haake.

"We're not a very big team. We only have 21 kids which is the second largest team I've ever had so you know a lot of my kids play a lot of minutes so we just have to be tough football kids. We have to be tough on the field and we want to play physical. That's our goal, is to always come in and be the more physical team, says head coach Josh Deines

The Knights will open up their season at home against Ainsworth.
