STAPLETON, Neb. (KNOP) - Seth Simants, the first state wrestling champion in Stapleton high school history, signed his letter of intent to wrestle at Chadron State College on Wednesday.
Simants chose Chadron because it is close to home, and he has friends at the school.
"I went and visited other colleges, but they were pretty far away, so I kind of wanted to stay close to home and also have a good wrestling experience, and I know a few guys that went up there because I wrestled with them throughout last summer," Simants said.
During Simants' visit to the university, he enjoyed meeting with the people in the admissions office and his tour of campus, and clicked with the wrestling coach.
"The coach is really cool, I know it's a good program because I saw two NCAA brackets on his wall," Simants said.
Simants says his ultimate goal is to become and NCAA champion.
"My goal right now is just to qualify for the NCAAs, and then later on to place, or be a champion at the NCAA tournament," Simants said.
