SUTHERLAND, Neb. (KNOP)- Despite coming off a season where they won just three games, the spirits are high for the Sutherland girls basketball team coming into the new year.

Head Coach, Jason Gunderson, said something that has stood out to him in the early stages of team practices is the competition level in practices, something the team lacked last year. "We're competitive, got a good group of younger players who are all trying to find their roles and spots." Gunderson also emphasized on the importance of team chemistry and being supportive of one another.

Shooting is an area the Sailors have shown a lot of potential in, particularly in the three point range. "We got some three point shooters that I'm really excited to see get on the court and do some work", said senior Emma Wareham. The Sailors lost just one senior from last years team, meaning the depth of leadership the team will have from upperclassmen could be a big strength for this seasons team.
