Obstacle course and climbing zone to be added to North Platte Rec Center
NORTH PLATTE, Neb. (KNOP) - As construction continues at the North Platte Recreation Center, city officials are planning to add new amenities to the state-of-the-art facility.
This week, the North Platte City Council unanimously approved the addition of an obstacle course system and a climbing zone.
These additions were made possible by the project’s ability to remain on budget, allowing the city to deliver enhanced recreation opportunities without compromising financial responsibility.
“Not only do we feel good about the budget, but we’ve waited, we’ve researched and we feel good about coming in under budget. Both of these features are very unique, and people will enjoy them for a long time, “said Bob Barr, North Platte Recreation superintendent.
According to Barr, the added features will be the first of their kind in the state and should have a positive economic impact on the region.
“For both of these features, they can be changed. So we can keep it new and fresh and change the challenges. We feel confident that people will enjoy it for a long time. The research that we’ve done has included talking to departments that have these features. North Glen, Colorado, is the one I talked to the most. They’ve had theirs for three years, and they say they still have people lined up around the deck waiting to use it,” Barr said.
Barr says that the Rec Center is approximately six months away from opening the new turf area and about nine months away from opening the pool.
