NORTH PLATTE, Neb. (KNOP) - A Nebraska state trooper, two state transportation workers and bystanders rescued a trapped driver from a burning semi on Interstate 80 near Gothenburg on Tuesday afternoon, the Nebraska State Patrol said.

The group pulled the driver from the cab seconds before it became engulfed in flames, according to the patrol. Trooper Lassen used a Halligan tool from his cruiser with Nebraska Department of Transportation crew members Noah and Tyce to pry open the door.

After the rescue, Lassen applied multiple tourniquets to the seriously injured driver, the patrol said. Emergency medical crews took over care and transported the driver to a hospital, where the driver is receiving treatment.
