Stolen vehicle from North Platte crashes after chase through Dawson County

NORTH PLATTE, Neb. (KNOP) - A driver is dead after a pursuit involving a stolen vehicle ended in a rollover crash west of Lexington on Highway 30.

According to a release from the Dawson County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were notified Sunday, Oct. 4, of a vehicle stolen from the North Platte area and last seen leaving the Gothenburg area eastbound on Highway 30. Authorities said the vehicle may have been driven by a missing or runaway juvenile.

Deputies located a vehicle matching the description and confirmed it was stolen. They attempted a traffic stop, but the driver refused to pull over. The pursuit continued eastbound through Cozad, where deputies disengaged.

Minutes later, authorities received a report of a matching vehicle that had rolled and crashed west of Lexington on Highway 30. Deputies found the driver had been ejected. Life-saving measures were attempted at the scene, but the driver died from injuries sustained in the crash.

The Dawson County Attorney’s Office has ordered an autopsy. The Nebraska State Patrol and Lexington Fire and Rescue assisted at the scene. The Nebraska State Patrol is investigating.
