Medica Gives $100,000 to Expand Orthopedic Care in North Platte

NORTH PLATTE, Neb. (KNOP) - The Great Plains Health Care Foundation has received a $100,000 gift from Medica Insurance Company to expand access to orthopedic care across greater Nebraska.

The contribution advances the Great Plains Health Orthopedics expansion project, which will increase exam rooms from 14 to 32 and add a C-arm imaging room, a second X-ray room, a specialized hand-care area, a dedicated athletic-trainer space and a private scheduling room in a 29,300-square-foot facility at 215 McNeel Lane, according to a press release from Great Plains Health.

Medica cited continued economic growth and population increases in the North Platte region — including local developments such as Sustainable Beef, Amazon and the Nebraska International Port of the Plains — as factors that increase demand for specialty health services. The company said it remains committed to advancing health equity through community-based partnerships that strengthen care access in rural and growing areas.

The expanded clinic will bring modern technology and state-of-the-art facilities designed to enhance healing, restore mobility and support movement for patients of all ages. It will also offer convenient access across the parking lot to Great Plains Homecare Equipment for bracing, mobility aids and supportive devices.

In addition to the $100,000 gift, Medica gave $10,000 to Hope Esperanza to strengthen translation and interpretation resources for patients who do not speak English as a first language. The nonprofit said improved interpretation services help patients understand their options, ask questions and participate fully in their care.

Patrick Bourne, Nebraska market president for Medica, said the gifts “reinforce our shared commitment to making sure no patient has to leave home or go without when orthopedic needs arise.”

The renovation of the current facility at 215 McNeel Lane is expected to be completed in early 2028.
