Lexington man sentenced in fatal shooting
LEXINGTON, Neb. (KNOP) - A Lexington man has been sentenced to 30 to 45 years in prison following his conviction in the fatal shooting of a 40-year-old man.
District Judge Chawnta Durham sentenced 35-year-old Aristh Rodriguez Linares on Monday in Dawson County District Court.
The sentencing follows an August jury trial stemming from the death of Maykel Farinas Carballo. Investigators said police were called in January of 2025 to the Cypress Lane area east of Lexington for a report of a verbal altercation. Officers arrived to find Carballo dead inside a stalled vehicle in the front yard of a residence.
According to prosecutors, Rodriguez Linares fired 11 rounds from a handgun into the vehicle, striking Carballo six times.
Rodriguez Linares had originally pleaded not guilty to first-degree murder and two weapons charges. Following the trial, which ran from Aug. 3 to Aug. 12, a jury convicted him of manslaughter (Class IIA felony), use of a firearm to commit a felony (Class IC felony), unlawful discharge of a firearm (Class ID felony).
The Lexington Police Department, Dawson County Sheriff’s Office, Buffalo County Sheriff’s Office, Nebraska State Patrol, and the Nebraska Attorney General’s Office investigated the shooting. The case was prosecuted jointly by the Dawson County Attorney’s Office and the Nebraska Attorney General’s Office.
