NORTH PLATTE, Neb. (KNOP) - Nebraska Attorney General Mike Hilgers described sharing the stage ahead of President Donald Trump on Monday in Grand Island as a once-in-a-lifetime moment, both as a state leader and as a father.

Hilgers was among a select group of speakers who addressed the crowd before Trump took the stage. He said he brought his 10-year-old daughter, Clara Jane, and described the arena as electric and energetic.

“It was just a lifetime memory for her, a lifetime memory for her and me to share it in an environment that was so electric, so energetic,” Hilgers said. “To be actually a speaker there ... in advance of the president was really a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.”

Hilgers said voters gravitate toward leaders who believe what they say and are willing to be themselves.

“You know politics has got a lot of ups and it’s got a lot of downs,” he said. “I will certainly remember last night, just an incredible evening as attorney general, but just as a dad and as a citizen.”
